Sherlock Holmes Anniversary

Sherlock Holmes Anniversary

The BBC’s latest iteration of Sherlock Holmes, as portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch, has been a resounding success with viewers. The show has been praised for – amongst other things – it’s innovative storytelling (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfFgnJoLiQE Note: Spoilers).

But as we all know, the eccentric detective has been reincarnated many times since Sir. Arthur Conan Doyle first brought him to life in the story ‘A Study In Scarlet’ in 1887 – making Sherlock 130 years old this year.

In fact, Conan Doyle himself was the first to bring his own creation back to life in 1903, after killing Sherlock off in 1893. In the story ‘The Final Problem’, Sherlock falls to his death (or so it seems) in a battle with his nemesis, Moriarty, at the Reichenbach Falls in Switzerland.

That waterfall exists in real life and here it is in our HD aerial archive –
