Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre 20th Year

In 1997, after more than a 300-year absence, the iconic Globe Theatre was rebuilt and it’s doors reopened, bringing a piece of Shakespeare’s London into the modern world.

The old Globe (already a 2nd iteration after the original burned down) was demolished after theatres were ordered to be closed in 1642.

The theatre exists today thanks to American actor Sam Wanamaker, whose vision it was to recreate the Globe as faithfully as possible: and not only that, but also to adhere to 16th century construction techniques.

This year, the Globe Theatre celebrates its 20th anniversary. Here’s our HD aerial footage of the unmistakable exterior:
